To daughter-in-law Amy MILES one half of the dwelling now occupied by her in Prince William Street as long as she remains a widow. To Samuel FERRIS the 200 acres of land adjoining his own property and John GIDNEY's note for £60. To my daughter Molly FERRIS £100. Residue of personal and real estate to be equally divided between my wife Mary MILES and grandson William STONE. No executor named. Witnesses: John BOYD M.D., George SEARS, James SEARS. Administration granted 22 November 1824 to the widow Mary MILES. Fellow bondsmen Thomas HANFORD and James O. BETTS, merchants, all of the City of Saint John. Inventory, dated 11 December 1824, valued at £3,326 by James CONDLE, George SEARS and Stephen SINNOTT. File contains a petition by Thomas Hanford WENTWORTH, yeoman, Saint John, dated 28 May 1839, requesting Letters of Administration de bonis non on certain unadministered assets of the estate, to wit a note of James HENDRICKS. The petition cites the death of the widow Mary MILES (then Mary ROCHE, wife of Edward ROCHE) on 29 January 1835. Petitioner states that Mary MILES/ROCHE left a will dated 4 August 1832 appointing petitioner together with Solomon NICHOLS, late of this City, deceased, and Dr. John BOYD as executors.
