Abstract City of Saint John, St. John County, Esquire. Will dated 16 March 1819, proved 13 July 1819. Niece Sarah CARMAN, widow of Richard CARMAN, property in Lancaster and Carleton, that is, the farm she now occupies, containing 300 acres, bounded westerly by John BRUNDAGE's lot and easterly by Jesse QUINTON's lot, and the Upper Farm, containing 300 acres, now in the occupation of Benjamin SWEET, and all the 10 acre lots adjoining the latter, and a lot called the MUNDY lot, containing 25 acres, two silver butter boats and my own and my mother's pictures. Grand-nephew William CARMAN, son of Sarah CARMAN, my dwelling in Prince William Street. Rector, Church Wardens and Vestry of Trinity Church in Saint John 15 acres of marsh land in the Parish of Lancaster, formerly a part of the Glebe Lot, for the use and benefit of the Church, and £300, upon trust, the interest for the use and support of the National School, or the School for the instruction of children upon the Madras System of education lately established in the City of Saint John, it having long been my wish that a Charity School should be established in the City. Residue of estate to executors, upon trust, to convert into money with all convenient speed and pay the following bequests. For the separate use and benefit of niece Elizabeth CARMAN £1,000 at her disposal and not in the power or disposal of any husband she hath or may have. Nephew Israel HORSFIELD £500. To his son Thomas HORSFIELD £250. Niece Jane HORSFIELD the lawful interest at the rate of six per cent per annum of £500, annually paid to her for life. Ann SLOAN, daughter of my niece Ann SLOAN deceased, £500. To the two other surviving children of my niece Ann SLOAN, the brothers of the first named Ann SLOAN, £500 to be divided between them at age 21. To Ann SLOAN and her two brothers, a further sum of £250 to be divided among them, being a sum intended for their deceased sister Mary SLOAN. Grand-nephew Thomas Horsfield CARMAN £200. Thomas Horsfield PETERS, nephew of my deceased wife, £200. Mrs. Catharine JACKSON, Mrs. Mary MARVIN, sisters, Mr. William PETERS, brother of my late wife, and to the daughters of Mrs. SEABURY, her late sister, £500 to be divided among them, this sum being the amount of five several legacies of £100 each by me given in a former will to the relations of my wife and her sister Jane BAKER now deceased. Robert Hazen PETERS, son of my wife's nephew Charles T. PETERS, £250. Mentions bond against grand-nephew Samuel CARMAN £375. Any residue of estate to nephew William CARMAN. Hon. John ROBINSON, William SCOVIL and Hon. William BLACK Esq. executors. Witnesses: Ward CHIPMAN Junr., John BENTLEY, William Howe SMITH. CODICIL dated 15 April 1819 restricts bequest of the 15 acres of marsh land to Trinity Church to the use and benefit of the Rector or Minister, this being the use to which the same Marsh Land was originally granted by the Crown.
