City of Saint John, St. John County, Sailmaker. Intestate. Administration granted 29 December 1820 to the widow Jane WEBB and Gilbert RAY, carpenter. Fellow bondsmen John MURPHY, taylor, and Robert RAY, sailmaker, all of the City of Saint John. File is indexed as David "WAY" and the deceased is thus named in the grant of administration. The Registrar of Probate directed that administration be made of the goods and chattels of "David WAY to Jane his widow and Gilbert RAY." Administration grant refers to the widow as "Jane WEBB" and she signed the document in this fashion. Record Book C, pages 341-342, the deceased was correctly recorded as "David WEBB." There would seem to be some confusion on the clerk's part between David WAY and David WEBB. According to the files of the City Gazette: David WEBB married Jane MORRIS in June 1813; David WEBB died "on Tuesday last" according to the 6 September 1820 edition; David WAY died 15 September 1824.
