The 'Reporter' says: Had Hon. John A. BECKWITH lived till December, he would have attained his 80th birthday. He was born in Fredericton and was the son of Nehemiah BECKWITH, a Loyalist who built the first sloop that ever ran in the St. John waters and who was drowned opposite the city. His mother was a Miss LeBRUN from Quebce and who came here as a Governess to Lady CARLETON The family consisted of three brothers and three sisters. Miss BECKWITH is the only sister living, Mrs. MARSH, mother of the police magistrate; and Mrs. HARTT, mother of Marvin HARTT, having died some years ago. Francis E. BECKWITH and Charles LeB. BECKWITH, both brothers of the deceased, are dead. Mrs. BECKWITH, the mother, died in our city a few years since at a great age and was nearly all her life a member of the Methodist Church.
