The 'Globe' Monday Dec. 19th published a brief despatch from Vancouver, B.C. stating that George BARNES has been shot and robbed while crossing a bridge at night and it was feared his death would ensue. Later reports, however, say that the bullet was easily found and was extracted without difficulty and that the victim of the assault would recover. Mr. Barnes is a son of Wm BARNES of Barnesville and a cousin to J. Pope BARNES of Barnes & Murray, St. John. He is a young man who has been on the Pacific coast for a few years and has been very successful in the real estate business. The assault on him was made in the city of Vancouver. The 'World' says: Noone is inclined to the theory that he was attacked by common thieves or footpads, but on the contrary, the general conviction is that he was followed by people who knew what money he had and how and where he had got it.
