A sad accident occurred yesterday afternoon at Miss D'ORSEY's picnic at Golden Grove about nine miles from this city. John ELLIOTT, age 15, s/o James ELLIOTT, who lives six miles from the city, was one of a number playing baseball. He was at the bat and Samuel BLACK of the Marsh Road (St. John) was pitching. The ball struck Elliott on the neck, just below the right ear. He did not appear to be much hurt and continued the play. A few moments later he fell and lived about ten minutes. He was carried to his father's residence where an inquest was held before Coroner Earle. The father of the deceased identified the body. The only other witness of L.C. McNUTT. Verdict: accidental death. (see original)
