About 8 o'clock last night a mna named Andrew HAVEY, age 55, and caulker by trade, wandered down Moran's wharf, Lower Cove (St. John) and stumbled overboard. His cries while in the water attracted the attention of Charles McCARTHY and Andrew BURNS and they ran to the rescue. The man, who could could swim, succeeded in keeping himself afloat until his rescuers reached him and landed him in a scow. Later in the night it was found that he was getting worse. He lingered until a few minutes after 3 o'clock when he died. (see original)
