The "Rienxi" sailed from ProvincetownApril last on a whaling voyage with a crew of 22 men including George PORTER of Fredericton (York Co.) On returning home with a full cargo they were demasted and waterlogged during the late hurricane.Capt. SMALL, his mate, and son, age 16, together with twoboat steerers, ship keeper and steward were drowned in thecabin. Some of the crew were drowned in the forecastle andothers were washed overboard. All the provisions the remaining crew had for 10 days was about a peck basket ofbread which they succeeded in getting from the hold, it having been soaked in salt water for 48 hours. The day before they were taken, they caught a shark, by means of ahow line, the liver of which they ate raw. They tried todrink the blood but found it too bitter. All the water theyhad, they caught by putting an old sheet in the rain duringa shower.. for seven days the sea made continual breach overthem and they could only keep on the wreck by lashing them-selves.
