Capt. RUDE of schr. Paradise at this port Thursday eve., from the coast of Newfoundland reports the total loss of schr. Ada of Westport, from Halifax for Labrador. The Ada left St. Barbe's 30th Sept. and 7 Oct. during a fearful gale from the N.W. she was driven on a ledge of rocks near Sandy Bay on north side of Nfld. It does not appear that the anchors were cast, both being found upon the bows, although the handspikes were in the windlass when the vessel was boarded. Among those lost was Joseph HIGGINS of this city. He perished in the cabin, apparently jammed to death. The remains of the crew and passengers were decently interred by the parties who found them. - Halifax Journal
