On Sunday morn. a number of boys went in bathing a short distance up the Creek at a place known as Devil's Back. One of the company, Ezra BAGLEY, aged about 13, placing his breast on a slab, attempted to swim across the deep hole which is at that point, but became frightened, let go of the slab and sank beneath the waters. His brother, William BAGLEY, aged about 18 years, seeing his perilous position, hurried to his rescure but failed not only to save his brother, but was himself drowned in the attempt. The bodies were recovered in a short time. The deceased were sons of William Bagley.
