St. John, May 6 - Charles PETERS, one of the best known merchants in this city, died tonight at 11 o'clock. He was 72 years of age and had been residing in this city for about 38 years. He was interested in a great number of enterprises, noteable among them his tannery on Union Street, his great flour and commission establishment and also some vessel property. Deceased was only ill about a week. He leaves seven sons and one daughter, all living in St. John. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon.
