On Wednesday two daughters and one son of Mr. JONES left their home to attend a wedding the following day in Greenwich (Kings Co.) We learn they intended to return on Friday, but the violent storm of the day prevented them. On Saturday they left Greenwich, the party consisting of two sisters, their brother and father's hired man who was driving the horse. On coming round the point of land between the St. John River and Nerepis Stream, the ice suddenly burst under the horse and the whole party with horse and sleigh were instantly plunged into the water. The driver succeeded in getting upon the ice; the lad, being a good swimmer also saved himself; the eldest daughter seized the sleigh and was rescued by the driver, but her sister seized some part of the harness and is supposed to have been injured by the struggling animal. She finally sank and perished. The animal also drowned. (d/o Samuel JONES of Nerepis) (see original)
