d. Capt. V. Evander EVANS, Sabbath, May 11th. He was from early life connected with the steamboat service. He was for a time first officer of the old "Maid of Erin", then commender of the "Westmorland". For over 30 years he was in the service of the P.E.I. Steamboat Navigation Company, commanding first, the "Princess", then the "St. Lawrence". In 1845 he was married to Mary E. LYONS d/o late Thos. R. LYONS and half-sister to the first wife of Dr. I.E. BILL. Until about six years ago, he was connected to the Episcopal church. He was baptized by Rev. D.G. McDonald. He passed to his rest in his 71st year.
