James FOSTER died at Alma (Albert Co.) 19th ult, 96th year. He was born in 1790 at East Machias, Maine where he lived until 1832 at which time he moved to Point Wolfe. He and his brother, Webber FOSTER were the first lumber operators on Point Wolfe river. The deceased came to Alma and entered into partnership with Nathan LOCKE who was a large real estate owner. The firm carried on the lumber business for a number of years after which Mr. F. gave his attention largely to farming and shipbuilding. Early in life he married Miss Hannah HANSCOMBE of his native village, who died 21 years ago. They had thirteen children, four of whom survive the father, Capt. Albert J. FOSTER and N.H. FOSTER of Almam Mrs. Wm CLEVELAND of Salem, Mass., and Mrs. Alex. McRA of Seattle, Washinton Territory. He leaves 34 grand- children and 21 great-grandchildren. He became a member of the Baptist Church at an early age and was elected deacon of the first Baptist Church of Harvey about 40 years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. S.C.
