The funeral of George W. BELYEA took place from his residence yesterday afternoon. The deceased, who was in his 83rd year, participated in a number of events. On the celebration of the Queen's coronation in 1838, he and Wm CRAFT, Wm DUNHAM, Thomas THEALL, Jacob CHRISTOPHER and KETCHUM were the winning crew in the boat race. He was the grandson of a Loyalist, his father being Samuel BELYEA, who was in charge of the old Bentley mansion on Duke St. immediately after it was vacated by Gabriel G. Ludlow, the first mayor of St. John. In this house the deceased was born, being the eldest of eleven children of whom five are now living, viz: John BELYEA, Samuel W. BELYEA, James BELYEA, Charles BELYEA of Boston and Mrs. Florence DOBSON of Florencetown, N.S. He was the uncle of W.B. BELYEA of Woodstock, whose father Bayard BELYEA was lost in the ill-fated steamer "City of Columbus". George W. Belyea leaves one son, Addison BELYEA and one daughter, Mrs. John E. JAMES of Brooklyn, N.Y. Services were conducted yesterday by Rev. C.H. Paisley and Rev. F.A. Wightman.
