'Letter From A Tourist' dated San Francisco, Ca., Sept. 10 - ... In Boston I called upon a number of friends. among them my old friend, Neil NOURSE, father of Mrs. Dr. SPRAGUE of your town and Dr. Warren NOBLE at Quincy Market, one of the Woodstock boys. I took the train from here to Lowell (Mass.) where I met Reuben JONES of Wakefield (Carleton Co.) who keeps an extensive boarding house. ... In Denver, Colorado I met my brother A.L. BOYER and wife who have resided here seven years; Mrs. RANKIN of Woodstock and Mr. and Mrs. KNIGHT of Woodstock; the latter a sister of Rev. J.T. PARSONS, Mr. HAMILTON of Jacksontown; Mr. HAMM of Woodstock; Mrs. GRAHAM, formerly Miss LUNN of Windsor and one of my old apprentice boys, Richard SHAW. I left Denver Sept. 1st, stopping first at Siam City, Wyoming Territory. Here I took one of the old California trails through the mountains and arriving at the foot of Table Mountain, I find a miner's camp. Knocking at the door and being bid to come in I find the occupant to be Richard PHILLIPS son of David PHILLIPS, Upper Woodstock. He has spent many years in the mining business; last year he sold out his interest for $100,000 untenable stock, but after sinking shafts in different directions in the mountain, the company got into litigation and the mine has not been worked for over a year. .. Taking the train again, we arrive in San Francisco. Here I met my cousin, Nathan PHILLIPS who has resided in California almost a quarter of a century. Wm KEYS, Woodstock boy who keeps a livery stable, drove me around the city, also James McLAUGHLAN of Woodstock and to all of whom I am under obligations. This morn. as I was preparing to leave, I was surprised when the clark handed me a card bearing the name of Mrs. Maude Hartley JONES giving me a polite invitation to call. She is a sister of Rev. G.T. HARTLEY, Upper Woodstock. ... (sgd) G.W.B.
