John C. HANNAY, who removed from St. Nicholas River (Kent Co.) to California in 1891 has sent to friends in this county a late number of the Stockton, Ca. 'Independent' containing the following report of the probate of the will of Uriah MARTIN of that city. - The last will and testament of Uriah Martin, deceased was filed for probate yesterday by W.B. Nutter, attorney for Eugene M. Gransky, the executor named in the document. The deceased was a farmer for many years, living at French Camp from away back in the 50's until a few years ago when he removed to Stockton. The bequests are as follows: To a niece, Elizabeth ROBBINS residing in England $500; to a nephew George MARTIN residing in England $500; to a brother George MARTIN of Newfoundland $500; to the son of deceased, Thomas F. MARTIN of Stockton $1000; to Josephine POWELL, Stockton $50 and no more. All the rest residue and remainder of the estate is bequeathed to the widow, Elizabeth MARTIN, absolutely and forever. In the event of the death of either of the devisees the sum or sums which should be distributed to the deceased shall go to the widow. - The Elizabeth Martin mentioned is Mr. Hannay's mother and is a native of Kingston. She taught school in Jardineville about 40 years ago when she was known as Miss Betsy RICHARDSON. Her sister, Mrs. Wm BRITTAIN, still resides in Kingston.
