St. John - An explosion occurred in a mill at South Bay (St. John) this morn. The mill was known as the 'Old Sutton Mill' and was operated this season by Adams & Gregory. The latest from the scene gives six killed as follows: Herbert KELLY, age 12, South Bay; Henry BAIRD and his son, James BAIRD, belonging to Pisarinco; Michael LYNCH, South Bay; Bert CURREY, a deaf and dumb boy, who was playing near the mill and Andrew WARK, age 24, belonging to Carleton. Richard HAYES is so badly scalded he is not expected to live. Others injured are Patrick LYNCH, Frank GAULT, John DUGAN, Adam ARMSTRONG, Peter HARRINGTON, James HARRINGTON, John DUKE, George CUSACK and Daniel LOGGIE.. These men all belong to South Bay or Carleton. (see original)
