On Saturday afternoon a party of four belonging to Fort Fairfield, Maine viz. Frank COLLINS, hotel keeper; William TYLER, creamery; William SLOCOMB, clothier and Arthur GOODHUE, jeweler, attempted to run the rapids below Aroostock Falls. When nearly through the rapids their birch canoe filled and sank. Goodhue and Slocomb, after rising, clung to the canoe and were rescued at the mouth of the river; Collins and Tyler started to swim for the shore which they had almost gained when they were seen to throw up their arms and sink, and they did not rise again. Both the victims were young unmarried men.
