Surprise was manifested today when it was known that Lewis W. LINGLEY, who had been appointed Chamberlain of Portland (St. John) died at an early hour this morn. He had only occupied the office two weeks when he was prostrated by illness. For 14 years he has been one of the assessors of Portland, resigning the office on his appointment as Chamberlain. He was also tax collector for a number of years. The deceased was member of the Order of Oddfellows and was P.G. of Peerless Lodge. He leaves a widow, daughter of Henry MAXWELL and five children.
