Dalhousie (Rest. Co.) Oct. 28 - John PHILLIPS, Esq., ex-M.P.P. for Restigouche died at his residence, Dalhousie on Monday morn., age 68, and had represented the County for seven years. He was born in Westmorland, England on June 16th, 1810 and was educated in England. He came to the Province in 1832 and a year later was married to Miss Catherine McCARTHY. He was once Deputy Sheriff of Gloucester Co. He was an unsuccessful candidate to represent Rest. in 1861 and for the same seat in the Commons in 1867. He was first returned in December 1870 to the Legislature. He was reelected 1874. He offered at the last general election and was defeated. He was a Liberal.
