Fifty years ago last Wednesday G.J. WORDEN and Miss Charity GOLDING of Wickham (Queens Co.) were made man and wife. By sturdy endeavor and honest toil they acquired a house and a large family of sturdy sons, the majority of whom are now scattered over the province and today, with the weight of 73 years resting upon him, there are few stronger and more active men than Mr. Worden. The old house at Wickham probably never before held so many people as on Wednesday night. There were members of the family, their wives and Mr. and Mrs. Worden's intimate friends. The following are the names of the persons from the city who were present: Mrs. C.N. SKINNER, Fred SKINNER, John WHITE and wife, Rev. G.A. HARTLEY and wife, Edward KENNEDY, Robt. DALTON and wife, John W. VINCENT and wife, L.T. NASE and wife, Geo. F. BAIRD and wife, J.W. ROOP and wife, Dr. M. CASE of Vancouver, who is visiting friends in the city, R.T. WORDEN and wife, N.H. WORDEN and wife, Frank WORDEN and wife, Miss Bertie WORDEN and Hugh McINTYRE. Mr. Baird read a letter of regret from Mrs. Worden's sister, Mrs. Robert CARPENTER who resides in Norton Mills, Vt. She was married just a week after Mrs. Worden and will celebrate her golden wedding next week. During the remainder of the eve. a speech was made by Rev. John Perry who gave a short history of the Worden family. Isaac WORDEN, Jarvis WORDEN and Gabriel WORDEN were Loyalists and arrived in St. John in 1783. J. Worden was a great-grandson of Jarvis WORDEN. (abridged)
