A Correspondent at Springfield (Kings Co.) Dec. 12 writes: The death has already been announced at Springfield of Rev. John W. HICKSON, M.A., 36th year of his age. He was born in Springfield but left the home of his parents when quite a lad in order to secure the benefit of a better school system. He went through the school course with honors and taught the village school for one term in Belleisle (Kings Co.) In 1877 he entered the University of New Brunswick and came within one of winning the Kings Co. scholarship. He afterwards taught in St. John and was principal of the Winter Street School. He studied law with Charles A. STOCKTON and in 1888 was admitted to the bar; but not liking the law as a profession he gave it up and set his mind on theology. He entered the General Theological Seminary of Philadelphia in connection with the Episcopal Church. He was ordained a Deacon of this diocese by the late Bishop Medley in October 1891 and was afterward raised to the priesthood, and was subsequently elected rector of the parishes of Douglas and Bright, the churches of which he had charge at the time of his death. The deceased leaves an aged father and mother, four brothers and four sisters. The parents of the deceased still reside in Springfield. His brother, James E. HICKSON, resides with his parents. One brother, Thomas W. HICKSON, lives in Bradford, Pa.; another brother, G.H. HICKSON in Henderson, Maine. His youngest brother, W.A. HICKSON, is teaching school at Campobello, N.B. His sisters, Mrs. A. GARLAND and Miss Bella HICKSON, reside at Boston, Mass.; another sister, Mrs. W. PRICE, lives at Woonsocket, R.I.; the youngest sister, Miss Maude HICKSON, living with her parents. Rev. Lowe, rector of Summerside, Rev. Hanington, rector of Johnston and Rev. Creswell, rector of Springfield officiated at the funeral. The relatives from abroad were A.W. and T.W. Hickson and wife, Mrs. A. Garland and Miss Bella Hickson.
