John HARLEY, Esq., inhabitant of Miramichi, died at his residence, Chatham Head (North. Co.) on Sunday in his 76th year. The deceased was a native of Courtmachary, County of Cork, Ireland from which place he came to this country about 1825, two years before the great Miramichi fire. On arriving here he found employment in the shipyard of William ABRAMS, Esq. at Rosebank where he in a short time reached the position of foreman and remained in the employ over 20 years. He accepted the position of foreman in the shipyard of Joseph RUSSELL, Esq., father of late Geo. RUSSELL, Esq. on Beaubair Island retaining the same for several years. On Mr. RUSSELL leaving the country, the deceased in comapny with Geo. BURCHILL, Esq. of Nelson, bought the Island and shipbuilding place and commenced ship building operations in about the year 1861 which were continued for several years when the partnership was dissolved, the principle cause being the great depression in shipbuilding. Shortly after Confederation, Mr. HARLEY was appointed Inspector of Lights for New Brunswick which he performed until his superannuation in 1871. The remains of the deceased were interred in the burial ground of St. Andrew's Church, Newcastle yesterday afternoon.
