On 18th Oct., a colored man by name of Ed JOHNSON, between 50 and 60 years of age and by occupation a ship's steward, went to board at a sailor's boarding house kept by George HOPE on Water St. (St. John). At half past seven, he was taken with acute pains in the chest. Medical assistance was called in and he was conveyed to the Marine Hospital about noon. Two hours after his arrival, he died. An inquest will be held. (see original)
