On Monday morn. last, an 11 year old son of Samuel CROSSWAITE at Pollett River (West. Co.) was compelled to take charge of his father's team, because of the latter's inability to do so having a few days previous got drunk and in that state got very severely frost bitten. On the morn. above mentioned the boy was seated apparently in a crouched position, evidently endeavoring to keep himself warm. When nearing the crossing, Joseph MOORE, driver of freight train No. 28 sounded the whistle, which so alarmed the horses that they became unmanageable, and they dashed clear of the locomotive, which unfortunately struck the sled which was dashed into small pieces. The little boy was thrown a disatnce of about forty feet and when picked up was unable to speak and a wound inflicted on the forehead and skull was found. Dr. Peck of Petitcodiac, where the injured lad lived, was sent for, but the injuries were of such a character that no earthly assistance was of avail.
