Basil A. ROBICHEAU, Meteghan, one of the oldest residents of Clare, N.S. died Monday last. He was born at Metaghan in 1806 and was leader of the choir in the Meteghan church from 1825 to 1890. About 1863 he was appointed collector of customs which he held until superanuated last summer. His father, Armand ROBICHEAU was one of the first settlers of Meteghan and had two sons, brothers of the deceased who at one time represented Digby Co. in the provincial assembly. Fred ROBICHEAU who sat from 1836 - 1840 and Mathurin ROBICHEAU, late lighthouse keeper at the Cape from 1855 to 1867. The deceased's son Prudent ROBICHEAU was one of the first seven families who settled in Calre on 8th Sept. 1766.
