Intelligence was received yesterday of the death of Martin B. PALMER at his home at Hopewell Cape (Albert Co.) Saturday eve. Mr. Palmer was the eldest s/o late Philip PALMER of Sackville and brother of Justice PALMER of this city. The deceased gentleman was over 80 years of age and had been actively engaged in his profession up to a week or two ago. He was probably the oldest practicing barrister on the roll in this province, having been admitted an attorney Feb. 6, 1838 and made a barraister two years later. He studied law with the late Gov. Chandler at Dorchester, where they afterwards practiced in partnership for a few years. Mr. Palmer then removed to Hopewell Cape where he has since resided. He was for many years a leading lawyer of Albert Co. and for some years held the office of judge of probate, resigning the position about 20 years ago to contest Albert for a seat in the legilature, made vacant by the death of his brother, the late Dr. Rufus PALMER. He was elected and held the seat for many years. At the time of his death he was a referee in equity. The late Mr. Palmer married a Miss BENNETT of Albert who died some years ago and one son, Rufus Philip PALMER of Hopewell, survives them.
