Capt. William RISING, at one time a prominent St. John merchant, died yesterday morn. after a lingering illness. Capt. Rising was 74 years of age and a native of Yarmouth, England. He came to this country about 45 years ago and for a time engaged in the deep sea trade. He afterwards sailed as a coaster, but finally gave up the sea and opened business on the South wharf. For fully 25 years he was located there and retired only 12 years ago. Capt. Rising's first wife was an English lady. After her death he married the widow of late Duncan WATERBURY. One son, E.L. RISING and a daughter, Miss Alice RISING, survive him. Mr. Rising had been in failing health ever since the death of his daughter, Mrs. GIVAN of Moncton last February. Messrs. George H. WATERBURY and D.H. WATERBURY are step-sons of the deceased.
