A fatal accident occurred at Bear Point, N.S. last Friday afternoon, 24th inst., Sarah E. HOPKINS w/o Israel HOPKINS was in the front room of the house where some repairs were being made. A loaded gun was lying in the corner of the room some loose clothing which it was necessary to remove. She took hold of the gun by the muzzle, pulling it towards her (as supposed) the hammer caught some part of the clothing which caused it to rise and then it went off, causing the whole charge to pass into the upper part of the abdomen, killing her instantly. An inquest was held on view on view of the body the same night by Dr. I.K. Wilson, Coroner - Yarmouth 'Herald'
