Gleaner, 18th - We had a sad accident here this morn. A crew of twenty men had been sent ahead of the drive to what is known as the Mill Seat about six miles below the mouth of Beaver Brook. They camped on the left bank of the river two days, and a large jam was forming below, they were called down about two miles further to work and were attempting to carry their camping outfit down in a bateau. Although two competent boatmen had charge of the boat, she was swamped in the waves and three of the boat's crew were drowned. The victims were Barnie McQUADE, Alex. PHINNEY and Oliver A. COLE. McQuade and Phinney belonged to Nashwaakis (York Co.) and Cole was a resident of Houlton, Maine and leaves a wife and one child. Search has been made for the bodies but they have not been found. McQuade hasm three brothers here, but they all leave today and about fifteen others with them. The two men who were saved were Wm LEEK and Clement GOODINE of Kingsclear.
