It has been known for some weeks that Marmaduke RITCHIE, resident of Wellington Ward (St. John) had been lying seriously ill. He came to Saint John in 1832 from County Antrim, Ireland. Almost immediately after his arrival he set himelf up in business within a stone's throw of where he has resided ever since. He had learned the trade of blacksmith before coming to N.B. and quickly built a business which he managed until he retuired a few years ago. For many years Ritchie's blacksmithy on Peters St. was a landmark in the city. He was president of the Irish Friendly Society. He is survived by his wife and seven sons, one of whom is the Solictor General and a married daughter in San Francisco, California.
