The death of Hon. John LEWIS, father of Hon. Dr. LEWIS, ex.-M.P.P., took place at Hillsboro (Albert Co.) Saturday morn. in his 87th year. The parents and grandparents of the deceased came to this province with the Loyalists at the close of the American Revolution. Deceased was born in Moncton in 1804, married in 1829 Miss Lavinia TAYLOR who died in 1863. His second wife was Mary BENNETT widow of William BENNETT and she survives him. He was for many years a member of the N.B. Legislature, having sat continuous from 1852 down to Confederation when he was called to the upper house. By his first wife, he leaves three children, Dr. Lewis, ex- M.P.P., Hillsboro; John LEWIS of the same place and Mrs. Rebecca PECK, Hopewell (Albert Co.) Rev. PRINCE of Moncton is a nephew.
