Iron Duke Fire Engine Co. No. 2, St. Stephen - The company was organized on 12th Jan. 1853. (see original) The names of the original members of the company are as follows: Wm VROOM *, Matthew HANNAH, A.M. INCHES, A.U. HILL, Joseph ANDREWS, T.B. ABBOT, Marcus UPTON*, W.T. ROSE, C.B. EATON, Harrison THOMPSON, Jas. A. GRANT, Martin HORAN, Lawrence RYDER Jr., Barnaby BURNS, A.H. THOMPSON, Robert TOPPING Jr., Henry IRVINE, Jno. McWHA, J.A. ABBOT, J.H. ROSE, Geo. STEWART, Geo. The rest of them remain here but only (*) six of them belong to the company. Of the seven mentioned above we may mention the name of William ANDREWS who was killed at a fire on the morn. of 14th Jan. 1864, a chimney having fallen upon him whilst he was engaged in saving some of the contents of the house. He was not a member at that time, but his funeral was attended by the company in uniform. The first Captain of the Company of William VROOM who was succeeded by Matthew HANNAH. The office descended to others in the following order: James A. INCHES, elected 1854; Marcus UPTON, 1855; Henry HUTTON, 1857; John RYDER, 1859; Henry HUTTON, 1860; John B. ROBINSON, 1862; R.M. TODD, 1863; John RYDER, 1865 since which time the last named gentleman has held office. The present officers are: Jno. RYDER, Captain, Joseph McWHIRTY, Foreman, Joseph STRANGE, Asst. Foreman, G.N. LINDSAY, Secretary, Jno. F. GRANT, Treasurer, T.J. SMITH & G.N. LINDSAY, Pipemen; Section Hosemen: Saml. McCOMB, Jas. A. INCHES, Wm VROOM, Thos. STEVENSON.; Leading Horsemen: Jno. F.
