Two cousins, named STAIRS, residing at the Nackawick (York Co.) had been for some time unfriendly and one of them, Reuben STAIRS was heard to say he 'would have Jim's life'. They met in a house Friday last in a house of Mr. SMITH and Reuben at once rolled up his sleeves, and going into an adjoining room demanded a knife from the proprietor, whereupon James STAIRS left immediately persued by his cousin, calling him all the while to stop. After going a short distance, James turned and confronted him; a scuffle ensued and in the melee, Reuben received three kicks, one in the side proving fatal and from the effects of which he has since died. No knives were used by either party. James STAIRS in now in gaol in Fredericton, waiting his trial at the Supreme Court.
