Nov.5 - The handsome monument of the Gilbert Family was set up in the Dorchester (West. Co.) rural cemetery yesterday by Messrs. McGrath Brothers of the Dorchester Marble Works. Front: Sacred to the Memory of Humphrey GILBERT, Esq., a descendant from the Gilbert family of Devonshire, England who colonized in America under Patent from the Crown in the reign of Queen Elizabeth; born at Berkeley, county of Bristol, old colony of Massachusetts on 25th of September, 1775. After the signing of Independence by England to her American subjects, he was brought by his grandfather, Col. Thomas GILBERT with his family (being adherents to the Crown) in the ship "Spencer" to Parr Town, now the city of Saint John, N.B. where they landed in the Spring of 1783. On the 12th February 1807, at Dorchester, he was married to Sarah KEECH only child of Lt. Robert KEECH where he resided until his death on 20th July 1838, age 63, leaving a widow, six sons and two daughters. (Right Face): Sacred to the Memory of Thomas GILBERT, Esq., First Sheriff of Albert Co., N.B. Born at Dorchester, N.B. February 25th, 1808; died at Hopewell, March 8th, 1862, age 48 years; Robert K. GILBERT, Barrister-at-Law and M.P.P. for Westmorland Co. Born at Dorchester, N.B., March 3rd, 1809; died Nov. 14th, 1857, aged 48 years; Bradford GILBERT, Esq., born at Dorchester, April 7th, 1812; died at Dorchester, N.B., April 10th, 1879; aged 67 years; Elizabeth Ann GILBERT, born at Dorchester, N.B. Sept. 13th, 1824; died at Dorchester, N.B., Nov. 18th, 1864, aged 40 years; Lt. Robert Keech, a British Loyalist, born at North Castle, New York, Nov. 12th, 1759, who after England ceding to her subjects in America their independence, left New York with his wife and only child and landed at Fort Cumberland on 5th day of August 1783 and took up his residence in Dorchester where he died 2nd Oct. 1842, aged 83 years; In memory of his wife, Kezia KEECH who born at Dutchess Co., New York, July 8th, 1762 and died at Dorchester, 21st January 1849, aged 87; In memory of their only child; In memory of their only child, Sarah KEECH who was born at Westchester, New York, 5th April 1783 and on 12th February 1807 at Dorchester was married to Humphrey Gilbert, Esq., died 31st May 1863, age 80.
