William STEPHENSON was buried here Monday last. Deceased was born near the town of Donegal, Ireland and came with his father and family to Woodstock in 1845. In 1858 he engages in the grocery business in town and afterwards entered into partnership with G.W. VANWART with whom he continued to do a prosperous general business 'till 1864, when he removed to St. John and visiting London returned with a large stock of goods and engaged in a wholesale grocery business. Shortly afterwards he entered partnership with William McGIBBON and prosecuted an extensive trade in shipping lumber and West India business. Shoert before the Great Fire in St. John (June 20, 1877) this partnership was dissolved and the deceased continued the business. The fire came and he sustained serious loss as he did by the failure in the shipping business and in consequence assigned. In 1891 he returned th Woodstock where he has since carried on a small grocery business. About 18 months ago he had an attack of grip resulting in heart disease which ultimately proved fatal. A merchant of St. John, writing to Andrew STEPHENSON, one of William's brothers, aptly said we can ill afford to lose a man of such sterling integrity.
