Robert SEARS died at Toronto this morn. in his 82nd year. Mr. Sears was a native of this city, a son of late Thatcher SEARS and a brother of John SEARS. He learned the trade of a printer in the 'Courier' office at the same time as Henry ANDERSON who afterwards with James Gordon BENNETT started the 'New York Herald'. Henry Anderson died in 1838. Mr. Sears survived his fellow apprentice 54 years. When quite a young mn Robert Sears went to New York, where he carried on business as an editor, printer and publisher. His Pictorial Bible was a famous book in its day and his 'Illustrated History of the Bible' quite as famous. Mr. Sears also took part in the early crusade against slavery. He was vice-president of the Emanicipation Society and published a little paper in the interest of slaves entitled 'Colored America'. After closing up his New York business and retiring Mr. Sears lived for a short time in this city and subsequently removed to Toronto, where for the last 15 or 20 years he has had his home with his daughter, Mrs. HUMPHREYS. His wife, a New York lady, died there some time ago. He leaves several children.
