William CAUSEY, who had reached the advanced age of 86 years, died at 11 o'clock Saturday eve. very suddenly. Mr. Causey had been feeble but not sick for about a year, not suffering from any special malady, but the informities of age. He had established an excellent business as a builder. The last occasion which he was down town being the civic election last year. Mr. Causey was born in Plymouth, England in 1808. He came to this country in 1833 and immediately started in business as mason and builder. In 1883 he entered into partnership with Robert MAXWELL and this association has continued up until the present time. Mr. Causey's first job was to plaster the Bragg buiding which stood at the time on Canterbury Street. After the fires of 1837 and 1849 Mr. Causey erected a large number of business blocks and other buildings, including the Victoria Hotel and Post Office (which went down in the conflagration of 1877), St. Stephen's Church, Calvin Presbyterian Church, the Bank of British North America, the Lawrence building, the I.C.R. brick sheds on Pond Street, the Centennial School and the St. John Church school house. The deceased was one of the oldest members of the Masonic fraternity in the city, having joined St. John's Lodge in 1841. Mr. Causey was twice married. By his first wife he had six children, all of whom are now dead. His wife died about ten years ago. He afterwards married a Miss REED of St. John Co. by whom he had three children. Chas. McKEE, manager of the Western Union office, Halifax, N.S. and his sister, Miss Della McKEE, operator at Truro, are grandchildren of the deceased. There are three other grandchildren in Australia and two at Ottawa. His funeral takes place from his residence Mecklenburg St. Tuesday afternoon.
