It is our painful duty today to record the death of James McMILLAN, one of the most honored citizens of Saint John. Although in his 75th year, Mr. McMillan had always been in the best of health. The deceased was a native of Belfast, Ireland from which place he emigrated to Saint John with his parents over 60 years ago. His father, John McMILLAN, established himself in the book-binding business soon after his arrival here and his business increased, year by year. In 1836 he retired into private life and the business was continued at the stand now occupied by Messrs. J.& A. McMillan by his son, David McMILLAN. At his death in 1845, the business was left to his younger brothers, James and Alexander McMILLAN. Some time after the death of Alexander McMillan, George W. WHITNEY and John McMILLAN were added to the firm. James McMillan was a member of the Presbyterian Church. His interment will take place Saturday afternoon.
