Shortly after 8 o'clock last eve. the residents of Portland (St. John) were startled by a rumor that Mrs. Edgar FERRIS had suddenly expired while in attendance at a meeting in the Portland Baptist Church. Mrs. Ferris had expired from heart disease as was pronounced by the physicians. The remains were conveyed to the home of the deceased in Mrs. KANE's house, near the corner of Main St. and Adelaide Road. Mrs. Ferris was a sister of the late George SPENCE of Indiantown and of the late Mrs. Gilbert SPRINGER of Jemseg (Queens Co.) whose death several years ago was hardly less sudden than her own. Her first husband was Duncan FERRIS, brother of late Hon. John FERRIS of whom her second husband, Edgar FERRIS, was a cousin. Five children survive her: Capt. John FERRIS of "Storm King". Capt. James FERRIS of the "St. John", Mrs. Charles COLWELL, Jemseg and two unmarried daughters. She was 59 years of age Dec. 17th last.
