The wreck of the "Turkish Empire" bound hence for Dublin with a cargo of deals. The disaster was accomapnied by loss of life - the captain and six or seven of the crew being drowned. The "Turkish Empire" sailed from Saint John Thursday morn, last about 9 o'clock in charge of Pilot Richard CLINE. A severe snow storm came on the next day and it is supposed the vessel was wrecked during the continuance of that gale. It appears that Pilot Cline and 17 of the crew were saved. The names of the drowned are not yet known. It is impossible to give a full list of those on board the ship as only nine men were shipped here, the remainder having come out in her. The men shipped here were: Charles DWYER, 50, Halifax, N.S., cook; Robert DURNION, 32, Hopewell, N.B., steward; Augustus BEAULEAU, 23, Yarmouth, N.S., able seaman; John FOLEY, 20, Yarmouth, able seaman; J.P. LEWINDSON; W. MORRIS, James HANSON, Berton RAYMOND, Anthony MacPHERSON. The master Capt. Alden J. WEST belonged to Harvey (Albert Co.) N.B. and leaves a wife and family. (see original)
