Philadelphia papers furnish the testimony given before Coroner's inquest as to the cause of death of Capt. Joseph H. COX of Barrington, N.S., commander of brigt. "Theodocia" of St. John, N.B. - Capt. COX's death was the result of a stab inflicted by a seaman named ABRAMS 6th Feb. ABRAMSand two others had been arrested for desertion from the brig, and on the sixth, the vessel being ready for sea, were put on board by two policemen. On the way from the stationhouse to the vessel, ABRAMS said he would put a bullet through the Captain. On arriving at the vessel, the captain was not on board and the policemen waited on the wharf until he came. When Capt. COX came on board he ordered the men to go to work and his orders being several times refused by ABRAMS, he said to him 'If you don't go to work I will put you in irons' when ABRAMS rushed upon the poop deck and drawingthe knife, stabbed the captain in the right side. The policemen who were still on the wharf, took ABRAMS in charge and imprisoned him. Capt. COX was taken to the Pennsylvania Hospital where he died 8th Feb. He was the son of James COX of Barrington, age nearly 30. - 'Yarmouth Herald.
