A young man, Robert HICKEY, age 20 years, was drowned at hayden's flat, Grafton (Carleton Co.) Monday. He was working for Saml. HAYDEN and with Mrs. Hayden was down at the river arranging a place for washing wool. He was on one of some logs he was placing when it rolled and threw him into the water at a point where it was 12 or 15 feet deep. Mrs. Hayden enquired if he could swim and he replied no. She then extended a pole to him, but he made no attempt to seize it and sank. The body was recovered shortly after the accident and an inquest by Coroner W.W. Hay returned a verdict of accidental drowning.
