Mr. I.W. BINNEY, Custom Collector at this port, yesterday received a telegraphic message informing him of the death of his uncle, Wm PRYOR which occurred in that city Sunday afternoon. The Halifax papers contain lengthy obituary notices. His father was a Loyalist; his mother a German, named FOSS, a relative of Anthony HENRY, for 40 years Queens Printer of Nova Scotia. Born at the time of the birth of the Century, when he became of age, he entered the business of his father, the founder of the house William Pryor & Sons and was connected with it over half a century. In its day the firm carried on the largest mercantile business in Halifax. The house of Pryor & Sons was one of the first to do business with Brazil. The father of Mr. Pryor was one of the founders and for many years President of the Halifax Banking Co. When he died, his son succeeded to the presidency of that institution and held up to the time of his business reverses about 1874 when his firm collapsed. Mr. Pryor lived to the age of 84 years, although he looked 20 years younger. He wrote an able pamphlet about 30 years ago advocating building a railway from Halifax to Quebec.
