The residents of Long Beach, Salmon River (St. John) were horrified Monday afternoon by the news that Richard TUFTS, a 4 year old son of Capt. Simon TUFTS of that place, had carried the infant baby of Edos SURAT, a neighbor, from the house to the highway bridge about twenty yards distant and thrown him in the rushing stream where he was drowned. Charles Edward SURAT is master of a woodboat carrying deals from Martins Head to St. John and at one time commanded barque "Connaught". Edos SURAT has been living at Long Beach but a short time. He is of French descent. See original for testimonies of Mrs. Simon TUFTS, Mrs. Richard TUFTS, Mrs. Jacob TUFTS, Ida May ELLIS, Mrs. Edos SURAT
