William GAINES, one of the oldest residents of Westmorland Co. died in Moncton Monday eve. and was buried in the Fox Creek Catholic cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Gaines was over 90 years of age and quite blind. He was father of a large family including Michael GAINES, Berry's Mills and late Widow EVANS who died some months ago. Mrs. Gaines is still alive and smart, although deprived of her eyesight. Mr. and Mrs. Gaines could both remember incidents in connection with the Miramichi fire as vividly as though it occurred a few days ago. Mr. Gaines emigrated from Ireland many years ago and used often to state he believed that he would live to be nearly 100 years old, as he belonged to a family remarkable for their longevity. - 'Transcript'
