Fredericton, Dec. 14 -A sad accident occurred on the river about 8 o'clock last night. Geo. PARKS, age about 35, who was in the employ of Isaac PEABODY of Douglass, had just crossed from Fredericton where he had been leaving milk for his customers, to St. Mary's village and seeing the crowd enjoying the good skating, he left his team on the rop of the hill and went down in search of a young man named RILEY who had borrowed his skates. There was a large air hole about fifty yards from the shore about opposite the Indian camps. As a boy named CURRIE, seeing he was going towards the air hole shouted, but the deceased apparently took no notice and in less than two minutes after walked into it.Lewis BELYEA pushed a pole to him, but he seemed to be stupified and did not take hold of it. ... Deceased was only support of a widowed mother. (see original)
