A residen of Estey's Mills, Royal Road, Fredericton, Wednesday, brought a harrowing piece of news. On Tuesday afternoon about 5 o'clock, the nine year old d/o Fred WILLIAMS, who resides in that village, while in the act of kindling a fire in a stove up stairs in her home, sustained injuries from burning which resulted in her death 11 o'clock next morn. The fire caught in her clothes and the unfortunate child rushed down stairs to her mother in a sheet of flame. There was no water at hand, but Mrs. Williams tried to smother the fire by wrapping clothes around her child. This failing, she plunged the now frantic victim in the snow outside, but before the flames were subdued the child was very badly burned from her waist up, on her chest, back, arms and one side of her face and neck. Dr. Vanwart was summoned from the city and while he eased the child's sufferings he could not save her life, her injuries placing her beyond human help. Mr. Williams' father some years ago was burned in a lumber camp up river.
