On Wednesday, a large number of friends assembled at the residence of late Robert SWEET, Paradise Row to carry to the grave the mortal remains of a man universally respected for many years. For nearly 50 years, Mr. SWEET resided in Portland (St. John) and during upwards of 45 years was connected with the same firn. He was born in Woolwich, England on 12th Dec. 1812 and came to this country with his parents when 12 years of age. When he became connected with the firm Harris & Allan, he was but a youth and was received as first apprentice. The business at that time was carried on at Portland Bridge. Step by step he rose to be foreman of the firm. He was for seven years connected with the old St. Andrews's Kirk, St. John and on leaving it he joined St. Luke's congregation, Portland and for almost 30 years has been a member of Canon Harrison's flock. For 19 years he took an active part in the choir and up to the time of his death was an office bearer in the management of the congregation. 35 years of married life fully tested his character as husband and father.
